Dragon Star PHP RPG Engine - How To Play

After introducing my brother and a few friends at work to this game, I dicovered it would be a good thing to put directions up. After all, the game is no fun if you don't know how to play it:

  1. Log into the site. If you do not have an account then please create one.
  2. Click on the link of the of the game on the core engine page.
  3. If you need to or want to, begin by creating a team. If you have a team you want to play, then skip to step 6.

  4. Pick a name for your team and the number of heroes in it. A team has between one and four people in it. Click on "Name this team's heroes" to continue.

  5. Next name each hero in your team, pick a picture for each one, and choose their jobs. Different jobs get different skills and spells, but the picture is only for looks. Click on "Make them into a team!" to finalize your choices.

  6. Click on the "Play this team" link next to the team you want to play.

  7. The team menu provides opportunities to prepare your team for combat. To restore your life and magic for a fee, click on "Visit an inn". To view a character's stats or to equip weapons and armor, click on the picture of that hero. To arrange the party, use the arrow buttons around your heroes' pictures. To purchase items and equipment, click on "Go shopping". To use a spell, skill, or item, or to exchange or sell items, click "Use spell, skill or item". To go kill something, click on "Fight with party"

  8. To equip or unequip weapons or armor, click on the appropriate button next to the item you want to (un)equip. The change in stats are readily shown above the list of items. Strength and accuracy will have two numbers if you do not have a two handed weapon equipped, those stats correspond to the accuracy and strength of using just the weapon on the left and the weapon on the right.

  9. When shopping, a list of items that you can attempt to purchase appears on the left. Click on the item you want, and its description and price will appear. You may buy the item if the buy 1, buy 10, or buy 100 options appear. Select the hero to receive the item(s) and click on the button to buy the item(s). Each slot may hold 250 of an item (for now).

  10. When Using/giving/selling items or using skills and spells, begin by selecting the hero to use or give from. Next, select the desired action. Now pick what is going to be used, cast, given, or sold. If appropriate, one or two more boxes will appear, and you must select a recipient. Click on "Do action" to confirm the action.

  11. After beginning the fight, a loader screen will appear. When it is finished loading, the fight will begin and wait for you to specify what your heroes will do.

  12. Tell each of your heroes what to do. Click on a hero once to select him/her. The icon in the bottom left corner indicates what your hero plans to do; the text next to that says exactly what and to whom the target will be. Click on him/her a second time to get to the action menu, where you can change your hero's plans:

    • The top left two buttons (if they are there) are the attacks you can use. The boxes can have the following:

      • A fist means that you have no weapon in that hand.

      • A sword means that you have a hand-to-hand (melee) weapon, like an axe, staff, sword, knife, etc.

      • A bomb means you have a thrown weapon, like a rock, bomb, grenade, etc.

      • A gun means you have a weapon that uses ammo, like a gun.

      • A gun outline means you are holding a weapon that is out of ammo. If you pick this, your hero will sit there and look stupid.

    • The third button on the top is the Use Item button.

A list will appear, and you can pick an item to use. Then you might have to pick what to use the item on.

    • The top right button is the change equipment button.

A list of all the items you have that you can equip will appear.

After you pick your new weapon (or Nothing), a picture listing what you are using will appear. If you try to equip an item that needs to have other items removed first, then all of them will be removed.

If you choose to equip a weapon that needs ammo, then you will also get a chance to pick an ammo for the weapon. If you equip nothing, then you are only taking something off.

    • The bottom left button (if it is there) is the skill button.

A list of skills your hero knows will appear, and then you may have to pick the target of your skill.

    • The second button on the bottom (if is is there) is the spell button.

A list of the spells your hero knows will appear, and then you may have to pick a target to cast the spell on.

    • The third button on the bottom is the defend button. This doubles your dodge for a turn, but does not let you attack.

    • The button in the bottom right is supposed to be the run button. This is the only button that does not work. But it will soon.

  13. After you have told your hero what to do and whom to do it to, click on the commit button in the bottom left corner of the screen.

If you do not see it, then you are in the middle of telling a hero what to do. Click on Cancel Target on the left to let your hero do what he/she was going to do and then you can click on Commit.

  14. Sit back and watch the fight. It will take a little while for big fights.
  15. You win when they are all dead.
  16. You lose when your heroes are all dead.
  17. Have fun!
